Glue: A Devised Piece
February 26, 2019
The devised piece Glue opens in the Arena Theatre of the Fine Arts Building, then runs at Moonlight Theater late March! Here are my director notes:
“Play keeps us vital and alive. It gives us an enthusiasm for life that is irreplaceable. Without it, life just doesn’t taste good.” – Lucia Capacchione
Glue explores the relationship of three women, held together through time and circumstances with play. As we age, we typically move from active creators to passive viewers. Does play disappear, or does it evolve?
Glue is devised theatre, meaning the show was created collaboratively. Most of the words you hear tonight arose organically from the actors in the rehearsal room, offering a more personal dimension to the story. I transcribed and interwove the dialogue to compose a script. The artists worked together for less than one month to create and polish the final product from scratch.
I hope you leave Glue inspired to find more moments of play throughout your day. As Pooh Bear says, “When life throws you a rainy day, play in the puddles.”
Here is a picture of the beautiful cast. Ana, Izzy, and Hannah (l to r) brought so much positive energy, commitment, and joy to the rehearsal room. I am so lucky!
Tickets are $5, see you there!
